Quality and Environment at Schlötter

As a chemical company, we are aware of our responsibility to the people and the environment. We are constantly setting new goals in order to minimise the negative impact on the environment and to reduce the consumption of natural resources. We are committed to active environmental protection throughout our company as is illustrated by the examples given below.

Research & Development

Our R&D objective is to replace hazardous substances (eg. SVHC) with safer alternatives.  We have developed and continue to improve cobalt-free passivates, trivalent chrome electrolytes, post-treatments for zinc and zinc alloys based on Cr(III) and lead-free tin alloys. We are striving towards a sustainable plating industry by closing material cycles, reducing effluent volumes and improving the energy balance of our processes.

Energy Management

We are committed to using energy as efficiently as possible. In 2011, we installed a photovoltaic system on the roof of our administrative building which produces approximately 13,000 kWh per year. A new combined heat and power plant went into operation in the spring of 2016 (electrical output: 50 kW/hour; heat output: 80 kW/hour).

Effluent Treatment

In manufacturing plating chemicals, we generate several cubic metres of waste water per day. In order to guarantuee a safe disposal of these effluents we installed a new effluent treatment plant using UV oxidation in 2013.

Plastics Recycling

Customers within Germany are offered free return of empty containers which will be shreddered and recycled. Our plastics shredder was put into operation in 2011 and processes approx. 60 tons of plastics per year.

Quality Control

We carefully inspect all incoming and outgoing chemicals. We check each batch of our products and document the results accordingly.

Quality Management

We are certified to ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14.000:2004 for the development, analytics, production and sale of electroplating processes
